The CCC was formed in 1997 in response to the provincial land designations in the Town of Caledon and Peel Region, regarding 'high potential mineral aggregate areas."
This in effect protected those areas for future aggregate development.
Shortly thereafter, the "Rockfort Quarry" application was submitted by James Dick to the Town of Caledon. The Coalition and its supporters became committed to do the following:
- Uncover the relevant facts, issues, and risks associated with the Rockfort proposal and any other proposal for industrial development that could have an adverse impact on the human and natural ecology of the Caledon Hills.
- Provide timely and accurate information regarding the above, to all who might be impacted within Caledon Hills and beyond.
- Encourage all levels of government to adopt sound land-use planning policies which protect the unique environmental importance of the region.
